Abstract
A case study of using simulation to support the road planning of a large container terminal yard in China is presented, which demonstrates the method and procedures of combining discrete event simulation technology with road traffic capacity theory to assist road planning of container terminal yard. The architecture, components and processes of the model are discussed. Through simulation experiments, the peak traffic flow data were obtained. Based on the experiment data and analysis of the road traffic capacity, we can evaluate the reasonableness of the road planning and make recommendations for improvement.
