Abstract
Summary form only given, as follows. There is currently a need for high-power, W-band amplifiers for millimeter wave radar systems. In response to this need, a low-voltage, 94 GHz gyrotwystron amplifier suitable for airborne applications has been designed. Simulations show that the amplifier will be capable of producing 10 kW peak output power in the TE/sub 01/ mode at 20% duty factor with an efficiency greater than 20% and a full width half maximum bandwidth in excess of 1400 MHz. Key features of the amplifier design include an operating voltage of 25 kV, a depressed collector for efficiency enhancement, and an emphasis on minimized size and weight. Details of the gun, interaction circuit, and depressed collector designs will be presented. Construction and test of the device will begin in the near future.
