Abstract :
Reviews the basic principles of the construction of fractal objects with iterated function systems, and explains how such a technique has been adopted by Jacquin (1989) for the coding (compression) of digital images. New methods are also proposed for the enhancement of Jacquin´s approach, and the significance of using these methods is discussed in terms of processing time and the quality of the coded images
