Abstract :
Measurements are reported on the application of a triple frequency acoustic backscatter system for measuring suspensions of marine sediments. Data were collected over a spring tidal period for a number of floods in an estuary. The data have been processed to obtain suspended sediment concentration using a theoretical description of the interaction of sound with marine suspensions. To assess the accuracy of the acoustic concentration, pumped samples of the suspended sediment were taken concurrently
