It is important to see product data management in the context of the wider changes which e-business is enabling, and indeed driving, across every area of business. E-business has far-reaching implications for product lifecycle management (PLM): there may be questions about how fast the changes will be, but there is little doubt about the direction or how far. A wholesale transformation in attitudes is required to realise the benefits of PLM: so be clear about your level of ambition.
