Abstract
This paper briefly describes a prototype multimedia system designed for use by Korean semiconductor industry automatic test equipment (ATE) operators and vendor repair personnel. The purpose of the system is to improve user productivity by providing system information for operations support and just-in-time training. Identified are three main system features: multimedia instruction and training support, hypermedia functionality, and direct interface to existing ATE operating system software. The architecture and operation of six major menu-driven subsystems (introduction, caution, installation, operation, maintenance, and repair) are described. Also presented are the rationale for selecting multimedia, the development process, and the future direction and potential for incorporating artificial intelligence (expert systems) technologies to expand the present system. While not yet operational, this system has the potential to improve production effectiveness and efficiency in the very competitive semiconductor manufacturing and test environment
