Abstract
This study is focused in the evaluation of the current in the rail by bi-dimensional and three-dimensional methods, based on transmission line theory (UIT-T, [2], [3]) and in the finite integration technique - FIT - [4], respectively. A simplified model of the railway system allows to demonstrate the influence of crucial parameters such as the insulation rail - ground, the resistivity and the width of the railway platform in the distribution of the current in the rail. The complementary relationship between the 2D and 3D solvers used in this study is discussed.
