Abstract
We have developed a single chip audio and video decoder LSI for the second generation DVD player. The Media Core Processor (MCP) architecture, newly developed for multimedia processing, is adopted for the decoder. The MCIP architecture features a new, efficient multiprocessor configuration which can process various multimedia signals simply by changing its microcode. Using this architecture, the decoder has realized not only real time decoding of MPEG2 video, MPEG audio, Dolby-Digital and linear PCM, but also the integration of peripheral functions used for the DVD player, in a single chip
