Abstract :
Summary form only given. Unlike the optical pulse shaping, the THz pulse shaping we are proposing here utilizes second order nonlinear optical response such as optical rectification in nonlinear crystals. Complex THz waveforms can be generated in pre-engineered domain structure of poled ferroelectric crystals. A preliminary effort on the THz pulse shaping has been carried out by generating narrow-band THz waveforms in periodically-poled lithium niobate (PPLN) LiNbO/sub 3/. The concept of the technique can be extended to generate complex THz waveforms.
