Abstract :
In this article, we discuss an optimization technique of transform image coding in the form of a multistage procedure in which the error signal resulting from the quantization of the previous stage is input to the following stage. Multistage transform coding thus involves transform domain quantization in a number of stages such that each stage attempts to correct the error in the previous stage. In the technique discussed in this article, the bits are allocated to the pixels of each stage when the number of stages and the total bit rate are given.
