Abstract
Considers problems of constructing model reference adaptive control systems for a heat exchanger which is a distributed parameter system. Firstly, finite dimensional approximation of the object plant is obtained by the Galerkin method, and the accuracy is considered. The authors use spline functions for trial functions of the Galerkin method because accurate approximation is obtained with low dimensions. Second, the authors attempt to construct the adaptive control systems using the design method of lumped parameter systems
