Abstract :
The development of holography to become a versatile engineering tool has relied upon four other enabling technologies: thermoplastic recording materials, micro computers, computer aided fringe analysis and pulsed ruby lasers. The author has traced the way in which the pulsed laser in particular has freed holography from the laboratory and allowed it to be deployed in often hostile working environments
