Abstract :
Genetic algorithm (GA) is a useful method for optimization of problems which their calculations have different steps. Also, it is suitable for problems in which some parameters should be assumed at first. In fact column base plate is one of the structural members in steel buildings which its design includes a trial and error procedure. A modified genetic algorithm by combining GA and Newton-Raphson method is proposed and used for finding the optimal design of base plate in different conditions. Results show the robustness and high convergence rate of this method.
