Abstract :
The authors present and discuss detailed measured data on the scattering properties of a range of single-particle simulated hydrometeors, in particular, types which model melting ice spheres, granular hail, spongy hail (graupel) and low density accretions of ice which simulate snow flakes. The principal measurements made are extinction crosssections and these can be measured in one of a set of three open resonators (operating at 8-12 GHz, 35 GHz and 70 GHz), where the 8-12 GHz resonator has the facility of providing rapid measurements at 100 data points within the frequency range
