Abstract :
GCC Rio Grande´s 2900 STPD (2631 MTPD) greenfield plant at Pueblo, Colorado made its first clinker in January of 2008. It is the first greenfield plant to be commissioned in the United States outside of Florida in the last 15 years. This state-of-the-art plant was the culmination of 6 years of planning, execution and collaboration by a number of people in different companies to bring this project from its initial conceptualization to producing cement. Presently the plant is fully commissioned and able to operate at full capacity. It took a tremendous amount of determination, effort, and hard work to make this dream of a new greenfield plant become reality. Some of the history and highlights of this project will be covered in this paper.
