Global Positioning Systems (GPS) can measure locations and changes in locations of objects on the earth´s surface with increasing accuracy. Researchers in Southampton University and Tsinghua University (China), have been jointly investigating the potential applications of GPS for traffic management and control with support from the Royal Society and the Natural Science Foundation Committee (NSFC), China since 2000.
