Abstract :
A new routing scheme based on effective path cost computation for ATM/PNNI networks, called ATM-FLR, is introduced and its performance is compared with standard minimum-hop based algorithms. Extensive simulations were carried out for a 20-node square mesh model network using a realistic traffic model. The simulation results clearly demonstrate that this novel scheme outperforms the minimum-hop schemes by a considerable margin. In particular, at a call blocking level of 0.1%, the traffic throughput is increased by ~8-10% while all crankback and re-routing activity is virtually eliminated
