Abstract :
One of the main areas of interest in these systems is the optimisation of the use of the return link between mobiles and their base station. Users expect to receive a good response; operators aim to pack the highest possible number of users on a single channel to maximise utilisation and make efficient use of spectrum. This paper describes results from a simulation model that encapsulates the generic aspects of multiple access methods for a range of PMR systems. The first phase of the work has concentrated on the medium access protocols for a single channel in a cell. The second phase considers the system aspects for a range of channels over many cells and the related teletraffic issues
