Abstract
The Theory of Constraints (TOC) has changed the shape of manufacturing. Small closely held companies have seen the largest impact with dramatic improvement in profits. The success of TOC in larger companies has been relegated mostly to the manufacturing organization. The lack of participation or understanding of TOC by marketing, finance, management and other functional organizations has prevented large companies from optimizing their profits. Harris Semiconductor has been using TOC for two years and is using a holistic approach to TOC. In order to maximize the benefits of TOC. Harris has brought marketing, finance, management and other organizations into the TOC process. In addition to the manufacturing issues. Harris has emphasized management constraints, financial metrics and marketing´s perception of product profitability. While Harris is still early in the process, the initial results have shown significant improvement in profitability
