Abstract :
Wide band propagation measurements at 1890 MHz have been done in the Australian capital cities of Adelaide, Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney. A variety of environments have been chosen, and both high and low transmitter positions have been used. The portability feature of the backpack channel sounder receiver has been exploited to gain access to shopping arcades and narrow pedestrian lanes in Melbourne, where vehicle or even trolley mounted test equipment would be too unwieldy. A wide band channel sounder with a resolution of 40 ns, able to see path differences to 12 metre, was used to measure the complex impulse response of the radio channel. Probability-distributions for the RMS delay spread, and the mean delay of the power delay profile are presented. Median RMS delay spread values ranging from 52 to 1200 ns have been found, using a 15 dB threshold below the strongest ray. This is believed to be the first time wide band channel sounding results have been published for Australian cities
