Abstract :
The authors have presented a series of novel techniques for improving the passband flatness of arrayed-waveguide gratings (AWGs). Either phase or complex amplitude functions are used to produce the required broadening without excessive compromise on the intrinsic wavelength selectivity. Minimum passband variance parameters for both the phase and complex techniques have been shown, the latter producing a near-ideal trapezoidal passband characteristic
