Abstract
It has been shown that the pattern of regional echocardiographic contrast enhancement bears a close relationship to regional perfusion. The authors describe a microcomputer-based method of analyzing circumferential and transmural myocardial echocardiographic contrast appearance and gray-level enhancement following microbubble injections. After digitizing the echocardiographic images, the pattern of contrast-intensity change in consecutive end-diastolic short-axis images of the left ventricle is determined for up to 32 circumferential regions and two myocardial layers. Parameters of the time-intensity curve for each circumferential myocardial region (such as appearance time, mean intensity, maximum intensity, and washout time) are being investigated as possible predictors of regional myocardial perfusion
