Abstract :
A series of cold-weather modifications that were made to ten plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) as part of the Manitoba PHEV Demonstration are presented. These changes, which were all ultimately electrical in nature, involved improving the 12-volt battery system, and addressing cabin warmth. The ten vehicles were operated and monitored for a three-year period ending in August 2011. The modifications significantly improved operation of the vehicles during winter months, ensuring the success of the project.
