Abstract
The paper presents an energetic approach based on controllability gramian for optimal placement of power system stabilizers (PSSs) to prevent power system from oscillating. The use of controllability and observability gramian for order reduction of large-scale power systems are also presented. An application to both a "nine-bus system" and a "two-area system" give very promising results that could apply to large-scale power systems
