Abstract
This paper briefly discusses the main background and characteristics of a project to provide additional stabilising resources to the electrical network in Argentina in which Merz and McLellan has been directly involved. This project was initiated to remove dynamic and transient stability operational constraints in the power system to allow increased power transfers, improve security and quality of supply, restore the balance in the generation market and delay a major investment in the system for several years. After describing the main characteristics of the Argentinian electrical system, necessary to understand the circumstances leading to the stabilisation project, the role of Merz and McLellan at the different stages of the stabilisation project is presented. The main aspects of the project and details of its features and implementation are also discussed. Consideration is given to the results obtained, future developments and finally overall conclusions are presented
