Abstract
Topology model is regarded as the key factor of quality in a multicast system. High quality of a multicast system can be defined to high efficiency, robustness and scalability. Self-similar structured multicast (S3M) is a new application layer multicast model of high quality. After prior researches on a special class of directed graphs, we defined nodes group as the basic object of study in S3M, as well as data streams on it. They can be descriptions of structure and data transmission on the overlay network based on S3M. Nodes group which supports unitary substitution and multi-tree structure are the main specialties of S3M according to other current theories. Therefore, various existing overlay prototypes cannot afford precise modeling and evaluation of the multicast system. The paper proposes a design scheme of structured application layer multicast model. It sets up an appropriate evaluation context for S3M based on the sampling scheme of that multicast model. The prototype can substantiate the validity of the S3M protocol in contrast with NICE.
