Abstract
This paper presents a servo-mechanically combined strategy to reduce the position error signal (PES) in magnetic disk drives. A special head-gimbal assembly (HGA) is used to reduce the disk vibration-induced disturbance. Then a further reduction is attempted by means of servo loop shaping based on empirical knowledge on frequency-domain properties of the disturbance. The efficacy of the proposed strategy is demonstrated by experiments using actual sample disk drives
