Abstract
The paper presents a homopolar [Dordea, T. 1977] synchronous machine as an alternative to the machines with permanent magnets for high-speed drives applications, motors or generators. The construction and operation principle are shown. The magnetic flux, electromotive force (EMF), and the torque of the machine are discussed. The iron losses due to the electromagnetic phenomena are evaluated. An experimental model and the results from the test bench are presented and compared with the theoretical assumptions.
