Abstract :
A fuzzy object-oriented approach is proposed. Based on the idea of computing with words (CW), fuzzy objects are objects that take linguistic variables, and their operations (member functions) take as arguments variables to which linguistic values are assigned. Basic concepts such as fuzzy object types, fuzzy event types, fuzzy operations, and fuzzy type partitioning are defined, and fuzzy rule interpretation is then explained according to the new definitions. The membership function definitions are given for deep structure design, and we show the meaning of fuzzy sets, hedges, and multiple states of linguistic variables. It is shown that since objects of this kind use words for computing, they can play an important role in realizing an effective user interface for modern computer application systems such as multimedia systems and information systems. Furthermore, it is shown that the surface structure and deep structure of a fuzzy system specification are clearly separated. A case study of a multimedia system is presented
