Abstract
This paper presents design of a multi-function audio system in bedrooms. The proposed system can be installed on traditional headboards, thus has potential benefits in retrofit, convenience, and is unobtrusive. The system serves to play audio in bedrooms, can be used as a hands-free telephone system, and also provides a non invasive noise reduction system. Although the noise reduction system is capable of reducing environmental noises emanating from home appliances, real-time experiments were performed to show the capabilities of the system in reducing the more annoying snore noise. A modified twin-size headboard was used to perform experiments. Results of noise cancellation experiments with snore noise indicate a reasonable size of quiet zone with satisfactory performance achieved with the proposed low-cost system.
