Abstract :
In this paper, the end-to-end bottleneck bandwidth measurement in IPv6 networks is studied in depth. Recently, a lot of algorithms are designed from the perspective of network layer, making use of the new characteristics of IPv6 or modifying the protocol of IPv6 itself. Since the new characteristics are not specified in detail, or can not be supported by routers, those algorithms can not be deployed in real IPv6 networks, and only be simulated and analyzed via emulators. This paper presents an end-to-end IPv6 networks bottleneck bandwidth measurement algorithm. The algorithm is designed from the perspective of transport layer, which can not only be independent of new characteristics of IPv6 but also make full use of end-to-end properties of transport layer. Provided with a congestion control policy, a low-pass filter and a self-adapting adjustment mechanism, our algorithm achieves significant improvements on the packet pair algorithm, evaluation shows that our algorithm is accurate, fast, flexible and able to work in uncooperative environments.
