Abstract
Historically, speed is the main concern of wireless communication. However the need for low power has become increasingly important as wireless networking technologies become pervasive on the mobile platform. Thinner, lighter and sophisticated mobile handheld devices continue to grow as we move into the era of "anytime anywhere" computing. The main idea of this paper is to provide useful insights on core power consumption in a wireless chip and outline several clear, efficient guidelines to achieving a low core power design. To substantiate our claims, a study on the power dissipation before and after power optimization was conducted on a List Sphere Decoder (LSD) design and a novel low power reduction scheme is proposed for the LSD design mentioned.
