Abstract :
Summary form only given. We have studied the influence of liquid crystal-ITO coated glass interface to the photorefractive effect. All measurements were done in 10 /spl mu/m homeotropically aligned pentylcyanobiphenyl (5 CB) cells doped with 0.3 wt% Methyl Red (MR). In order to get homeotropic orientation in the cell, we have used different types of alignment agents. With all homeotropic alignment agents we see photovoltaic effect, but only in the cells treated with hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (HTAB), we observe extremely large orientation effect which strongly depends on the writing light polarization.
