Abstract :
The hydraulic roll crusher (HRC) is a relative newcomer to the family of major cement producing machinery, which includes kilns, mills, and the like. Also, there are a variety of configurations in which the hydraulic roll crusher may be utilized. These two factors, among others, may sometimes make the proper selection and specification of drive motors for the hydraulic roll crusher appear to be a difficult task. The purpose of this paper is to make a very basic analysis of the criteria involved in motor selection, and to compare the various types of motors (squirrel cage motors, wound rotor motors, and adjustable speed DC motor drives) which may be used for hydraulic roll crushers on a relative basis, in order to simplify the selection process for the user based on the particular plant configuration and power system characteristics
