Abstract
This paper presents currently available solution methods for the simulation of power electronics circuits used in most FACTS devices. The notion of varying topology is related to the simulation of such devices at power system level and employing ideal or quasi-ideal switch models. Currently available main stream methods are discussed and some ongoing research topics are identified.
