Abstract :
Summary form only given, as follows. Multipactor is an important resonant discharge phenomenon on which there have been surprisingly few publications. Here, we extend the theoretical analysis of an idealized model. Important effects, such as the surface condition and the effect of geometry, are largely ignored. Emphasis has been placed on the mutual interactions between the multipactor discharge and the RF that causes the multipactor in the first place. The simplified model allows us to address issues such as the condition for the existence of multipactor, the temporal evolution, the loading of the RF circuit by the multipactor, the mechanisms that lead to multipactor saturation, and the level of the multipactor current, when saturation occurs. We also examine the effects on the evolution of multipactor by the following: the quality factor Q and the degree of detune in the RF circuit, and the emission coefficient of the secondary electrons. Theoretical results on multipactor, both with and without an external magnetic field, are reported.
