Abstract :
The demand for high-efficiency motors has increased recently. In particular, considerable attention has been focused on permanent magnet (PM) motors. Accordingly, we have studied the basic characteristics of a single-phase line-start permanent magnet synchronous motor (1 φ LSPMM) that can be started as an induction motor and then operated as a PM synchronous motor in comparison to PM motors, which cannot be generally started using line voltage. In this paper, we report on the synchronous operating characteristics and lock test results of the 1 φ LSPMM.
