Abstract :
More attention has been paid to the influence of pre-ejection period (PEP) on the blood pressure (BP) estimation using pulse-transit-time (PTT). Previous literatures indicated that PEP inclusion in the measurement of PTT could improve the accuracy of BP estimation. Yet, this observation has not been investigated systematically. In this study, the correlation between PEP and BP has been evaluated on eleven subjects. The results of this study showed significant PEP decrease (p=0.002) and SBP increase (p<0.001) acutely after exercise. PEP was moderately correlated with SBP (r=-0.74). When SBP was given by PEP using linear regression, the standard deviation of residue was 7.3 mmHg. In summary, the moderate correlation between BP and PEP could be one of the important factors to justify the inclusion of PEP in PTT measurement for non-invasive BP prediction.
