Abstract
A new type of S-box implementation of Advanced Encryption Standard(AES)using normal basis method is presented. This method is used in the inversion unit of S-box and also uses shift registers which leads to a smaller size of lookup table. The lookup table size is reduced by grouping sets of inverses into conjugate sets and results in a fewer number of lookup table values. The above technique for inversion unit of S-box needs fewer amounts of memory resources and therefore occupies less area and is also suitable for security applications.
