Abstract

Discusses the current progress in speech processing and character recognition at the Telecommunications Laboratories (TL). The research areas include: (1) speech processing of Mandarin: speech synthesis and recognition; (2) Chinese character recognition: printed character recognition and hand-written character recognition. Some of the research results have been successfully applied to telecommunication services and transferred to industry. The most successful research results are also described
