  • Abstract
Urban transport and the environmental quality of cities throughout the world are becoming a more pressing issue of research and of increasing concern to governments. The environmentally effective integration of the motor car, urban transport and goods delivery services are currently matters of widespread activity. Considerable technical developments have taken place in recent years in relation to newer cleaner vehicles, e.g. battery electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles and fuel cell vehicles. These technical improvements have been enabled by the emergence of advanced power electronic control devices and systems, and the availability of powerful and ever cheaper computer power. This presentation surveys some of the most recent development trends in vehicles, and outlines a novel control implementation for a direct wheel drive motor for an EV
