Abstract :
In Packet Reservation Multiple Access (PRMA) protocol, transmission errors in the header of the packets and acknowledgements have a negative effect on capacity and speech quality. This paper reports a simulation study of the effects of errors on PRMA protocol stability and on speech quality. We also propose several changes to the protocol and introduce simple transmission techniques to improve the performance of the system. Based on these results, we identify a nominal PRMA system that provides twice the capacity of the original protocol in the presence of transmission errors
