Abstract
A disc-type brushless motor with PM (permanent magnet) bearing used in LVAD (left ventricular assist device) is investigated. The structural design of the motor is discussed firstly, and then, the performance of the motor and PM bearing is analyzed with 3D magnetic field analysis. Finally, the temperature rise of motor is simulated to find whether it suits the work condition of LVADs. With the advantages of small volume, light weight, low temperature rise, no damage to blood due to no mechanical bearing, the animal experiment shows that, the disctype motor with PM bearing could run safely and reliably, its performance meets the requirements of LVADs.
