Abstract
We presented a field trial of an automatically switched optical network (ASON) for the metropolitan area, as part of the "KomNet" project. We investigated the performance of the network as well as the multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) based routing and restoration processes. All main functions of an ASON-NNI were demonstrated in the field, which represents a further step towards real implementation of a dynamically configurable OTNs.
