Abstract
This paper describes a multi-mode radio receiver intended to facilitate the convergence[l,2] of cellular and connectivity (WLAN, WiMAX, etc.) applications. The radio has been designed to be capable of a large number of radio modes including GSM, EDGE, UMTS and 802.11 standards. In order to make the radio adaptable, a digitally implemented channel filter is used, and the different modes share a single clock. The radio consists of an RF CMOS front-end, a sigma- delta ADC and CMOS decimation circuits. A system simulator has been implemented, and the performance of the system in all the radio modes is presented, including the effects of Flicker (1/f) noise, which is important in CMOS RF transceivers.
