Abstract :
In this paper we present a working location aware MANET (mobile ad hoc network). The overall implementation is targeted to replace the conventional wireless sets in a battlefield with high tech wireless nodes. These wireless nodes provide voice communication capabilities in full duplex mode unlike conventional wireless sets that are half duplex. Ad Hoc network is implemented on both 802.11b Ethernet card and wireless transceivers. Proposed wireless nodes are capable of transmitting/routing voice as well as any other digital data. Backbone of the structure is an ad hoc network. To reduce the number of control packets to setup the network is achieved by a proposed routing protocol ADREAM (advanced DREAM), which is based on DREAM (distance routing effect algorithm for mobility). As each node is equipped with GPS therefore position aware protocol is used to reduce the number of control packets and increase mobility. A monitoring system is also implemented to monitor the wireless nodes by a central control or monitoring group. This monitoring application can run on single computer or a conventional LAN. Advanced options are incorporated in ADREAM and support for a gateway node is also added. This gateway acts as a passage between the MANET working on an ad hoc network protocol and the monitoring application running on the LAN. In the result section we will discuss the success and limitations of our implementation of MANETs.
