Abstract :
Two main approaches for building high power optical fibre amplifiers will be discussed; the first uses conventional Er-doped fibers pumped by single mode pigtailed laser diodes, while the second is based on double cladding Er-doped or Er/Yb co-doped double cladding fibers (DCF) pumped by multiwatt broad area laser diodes.
