Abstract
Particle piling process is a complex process of contact interaction between mechanical parts and particles which is widely found in modern industry and agriculture production. In this paper, the discrete element method (DEM) is adopted to analyze this process. The linear viscoelastic mechanical models is used to calculate the contact force in the piling process. The effects of particle friction coefficient and particle size on the magnitude of repose angle were studied. The numerical results show that, under identical conditions, increasing friction coefficient of particles leads to the rise of the repose angle.
