Abstract :
This paper proposes a novel ten-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor, which is characterized by two stators and two rotors mounted on the same shaft. Each segment of the motor can be considered as an 8-pole/10-slot five-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor with the concentrated, single-layer, and alternative teeth wound winding. Therefore, the structure can effectively improve the fault isolation of the motor. In addition, the two segment of the proposed motor has a circumferential displacement of 4.5 mechanical angle, which is used to reduce the cogging torque. Furthermore, we analyze the influence of the key design parameters on the short-circuit current of the motor. Then a phase inductance design approach is proposed to restrain the short-circuit current of the motor by increasing the self-inductance. Finally, the fault tolerant system performance of the proposed motor is verified by both the finite element analysis of the electromagnetic field and the prototype motor. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed motor has excellent fault tolerant capacity.
