Abstract
ONRAMP, optical network for regional access using multi-wavelength protocols, is a DARPA sponsored program to design and build a metro area optical network employing WDM and other technologies to enabling Gigabit Ethernet and faster services to the desktop. The ONRAMP testbed consists of a protection switched, bi-directional ring and a prototype collection-distribution network (CDN). A significant component of the CDN is the remotely pumped erbium doped fiber amplifier.
